ATV Riding in Brunei, a set on Flickr.

Recently while on a visit to the small independant Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam, I had the pleasure of being invited along for an afternoon of ATV riding along the pretty much unspoilt and under utilised coastline of Brunei.

I spent a fantastic 3 hours riding a 150cc ATV, with 5 friends along deserted beaches and along tropical rainforest paths that dot the area we were in. Some of the beaches had nobody on them at all, even though it was above 30 Degrees Celcius and the white sand and warm water beckoned you.

I must admit that it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be (so much for preconceived notions!), with beautiful scenery along the Brunei coastline, forays into the jungle behind the beach, stream crossings, riding through mud and big puddles and over rocks and up and down headlands as well as along the sandy beaches.

Four of the people I was with had never ridden before but our Guide was happy to allow practise time before beginning the tour, was very patient in teaching the beginners how it all worked and was a generally enthusiastic Guide that helped make the day special.

I have been to Brunei 6 times now and each time discover a new Tourism business and/or area where the local people are seeing the potential of their beautiful country and coastline.

Enjoy the Ride!
